Hispanic Heritage of Lake Jackson

In September and October 2022, the Lake Jackson Historical Association presented Hispanic Heritage of Lake Jackson, a pop-up display highlighting Hispanic and Latino history and community in and around Lake Jackson, TX. The display was on view from September 17 through October 15, 2023 at the Lake Jackson Historical Museum. The exhibit begins with an introductory poster which is followed by seven posters on the following subjects:

  • Hispanic history and geography

  • Seeking equality through education

  • Hispanic community, art & culture in Brazosport

  • Hometown Heroes: Gina Aguirre Adams

  • Hometown Heroes: Sgt. Teresa Arroyo

  • Hometown Heroes: Lucilla Longoria Henderson

  • Hometown Heroes: Dr. Jose Figueroa

This exhibit was intended to provide a broad overview of important figures, events, and movements which impacted Hispanic/Latino communities in the Brazosport area. There is vast opportunity to conduct further research and launch future exhibits that delve into deeper detail about each topic presented here.
