About the event
Come to the Lake Jackson HIstorical Museum for an intriguing mid-day history lesson from Dr. Theresa Jach. Her talk, titled "Convict Leasing and Prison Farms in Texas," will look at the convict leasing, and the area farms that utilized convict labor and the shift from leasing to state-owned prison farms in the "Sugar Bowl" counties, including Brazoria County.
Dr. Jach is a history professor at Houston Community College. She has researched and written about the Texas Prison system. She Co-edited/contributed to Incarcerated Women, contributed to Back to Bondage, authored Huntsville Penitentiary, and “Reform v. Reality in the Texas Progressive Era Prison.” She served on both the City of Sugar Land Task Force and the Fort Bend ISD advisory board on the Sugar Land 95.
Admission is free. Add on a box lunch for $12, or you are welcome to bring your own. All lunch orders must be placed by Tuesday, December 12th by 4 PM.
