La Relación y commentarios del gobernador Álvar Núñez Cabeza de vaca, 1555

The first recorded encounter of the Karankawa occurred in 1528. Álvar NúñezCabeza de Vaca describes his encounter in his book, La Relacion. 

In his account, he describes the time he spent with the Karankawa for approximately six years. Cabeza de Vaca was considered a slave but was treated well. He along with three remaining survivors escaped the Karankawa and made their way across Texas and eventually reached the Spanish Colony of Mexico.
